About the Composer & Lyricist

After the death of his son Dakota in 1999, Hawk Jones turned to his guitar for a source of grief expression. One of the first songs he composed was "Kota's Song" which he shared over the years with family, friends, and in various public performances. It was not until 2005 that he shared the piece with his oldest son Peter's singing group, Groove For Thought.

About the Arranger

Kevin Kunz is an award winning arranger, was one of the founding members of Groove For Thought, and the man behind this Groove For Thought version of "Kota's Song."

About the Lead Soloist

Peter Jones is Dakota's big brother and one of the award winning singers of Groove For Thought. On this version of "Kota's Song," Peter brings his own rich style and personal touch to the lead solo part. You can read more by and about Peter on his personal blog.

About Groove For Thought

Groove For Thought is the amazing group who swept the 2005 Regional Harmony Sweepstakes in the Pacific Northwest taking first place, best original arrangement, and audience favorite. They went on to win the 2005 National Harmony Sweepstakes, and in 2006, they released their first-ever, self titled cd. And in December 2010, they kicked it out on NBC's The Sing Off. A Note from Kota's Parents

We are so proud of Peter and all the Groove guys for all that they are doing with their performance careers. But we are most deeply touched by their generosity with "Kota's Song." It is our honor now to bring this version of the song to all our loyal KotaPress readers as a free mp3. It isn't a song just for Dakota. It is a song for all our children. For the ones who left us too soon. The ones who are missed so dearly by their parents and siblings.
