Girl Walking in the Wind
By Joel Vanvalin

Is there any day as fine as this with clouds
running footraces, stepping among snow and early flowers
bright and flippantly blue?
And there was that girl that
passed me by, her hair, her jean jacket
blown back at just the right angle
as she swung jauntily with the wind
a scent of lilacs thrown back
and left me with such a simple
exclusive smile, a smile just for me
a smile for strangers on a windy day.

I am a writer living in St. Paul and the editor of Whistling Shade (WhistlingShade.com). My first novel, The Flower of Clear Burning, will be published this fall by Novel Books Inc. For amusement, I fly airplanes.
