Two Experience of Loss
By Trevor Hewett

1994

An unearthly sensation
like nothing I'd been warned of
by dutiful friends
or romantic tale -

my heart as empty
as a pier-end ballroom
battered at night
by a winter gale.

2001

Shifting mood,
susceptibility
to changing light,
to wind and rain -

feels like leaving,
travelling north
into empty forests
on a cold night-train.

Trevor Hewett is an Englishman who lives and writes in his native Cornwall. Published widely in the UK and internationally, he has a short collection of work - 'The Patchwork Woman' - available from Mockfrog Design Press, Australia.
