Submission Guidelines for KotaPress Loss Journal

We accept *non-fiction* works for our Loss Journal. Here are guidelines to follow when sending in your works for us to consider for publication in the online KotaPress Loss Journal:

  • Please read the current and some archived issues of the Loss Journal first. Then if you are interested in contributing:
  • Send a letter explaining your interest in contributing -- we are interested in knowing how your personal experiences with death, dying, grief & healing are playing out in the specific works you are submitting. Along with your letter, send your *NON-FICTION* writings of any genre (ideas, essays, articles, suggestions, poems, etc.) and your bio to us here at KotaPress. Please note:
    a) send your letter, works, and bio as text all in one email,
    b) multiple emails will be ignored,
    c) attached files will be deleted without ever being opened,
    d) make sure the subject line of your email says "LOSS JOURNAL SUBMISSION" -- we get over 600 emails a day, most of them spam -- we sort and read based on subject line, so this is an important step!

  • Other artists of any genre (visual, musical) are welcome to submit works for consideration also, but you (obviously) have to be able to show your work in a digital format. Send your bio and ideas of what you'd like to showcase to us here at KotaPress. Make sure the subject line of your email says "LOSS JOURNAL SUBMISSION" -- we get over 600 emails a day, most of them spam -- we sort and read based on subject line, so this is an important step!

  • Please, please, please remember to include a 25 to 75 word bio with your submission-- we'll be using this in publication. If you don't send it with your submission, then you won't get a bio listing.

  • If we accept the works, it can take anywhere from one day to two months to hear back from us.
  • In terms of rights: We will ask for one-time, electronic rights and also the archive rights to publish your work in the Loss Journal. "ARCHIVE RIGHTS" means we have the rights to archive works in the context of the issue in which works first appeared and to offer that archived issue for as long as our site is up online. If you accept our offer to publish your works, then you accept that we are going to offer your works in our archive indefinitely. We will not remove works from the archive!
  • Once the issue is up online, all rights revert back to you so that you may go on and publish this work again in the future wherever you wish. We ask that you give KotaPress credit as a previous publisher, but that is a courtesy, not a requirement.
