Poetry Never Forgets
a song for Jim Maher
By Tim Hulley

You were my friend,
now I have only your words
But poetry never forgets
You made a mark on me,
told me it's alright to cry
And poetry never forgets
what belongs to the sky

I admire your artistry and quiet grace
Such a dignity of spirit is rare these days
And I wish that I had told you this, face to face
Thank you, my friend, I'm glad I knew you

Golden light streaming
across snow fields at night
We make angels in the snow
Skated til knees turned rubbery,
chased home by kitchen smells
Bright moon with fuzzy edges gives witness
to angels in the snow

I admire your artistry and quiet grace
Such a dignity of spirit is rare these days
And I wish that I had told you this, face to face
Thank you, my friend, I'm glad I knew you

At my desk, paint ready
Colors waiting to be applied
Move on, don't wait, make a beginning
There's nothing to fear,
nothing to be afraid of
Colors, paper, brushes are waiting
for a new beginning

I admire your artistry and quiet grace
Such a dignity of spirit is rare these days
And I wish that I had told you this, face to face
Thank you, my friend, I'm glad I knew you
