Vashon's Freed Books Project

Freed Books Project is a non-profit organization founded here on Vashon in July 2002. Our mission is "to give away books in order to promote the growth, pleasure and knowledge that comes from reading."

Nearly all of our books have been donated by fellow readers, neighbors, friends and family, coworkers, other non-profits, and bookstores. We have nearly 3000 books in our inventory with new donations coming in every week. We are committed to providing books to individual readers as well as to organizations. Our books have found their way to the women's prison in Purdy, the Veteran's Home in Seattle, several local schools and a library in India. Four boxes of our books are also being prepared to be sent to a village in Kenya. We continue to look for other organizations who may benefit from our books and welcome suggestions.

We have been in a studio behind the Beall Greenhouses (18531 Beall Road) since October and will be there for at least the next year. Our hours are Saturdays 10-2:00 with the liklihood that we will expand to Sundays as well in January.

Come and check us out. Of course, book donations are always welcome, but never required! Friendly dogs and children welcome!
