it might have been nice
By Michele Pollock

to give human beings miniature weathers;

pockets full of hailstones
eaten like candy

tiny suns to keep in
jars overnight

handfuls of green sea winds
thrown against the sweaty brow.

I would ask for raindrops
to flick
from the ends of my fingers

thunder rumbles, just in case,
under my tongue.

who hasn't wished for a blue storm
in the palm of the hand
to unleash at will?

Michele Pollock is currently pursuing her MFA in creative writing at Hamline University in Minnesota. Her poetry has appeared in many publications.
