Starshine
By P.H. Collins

I do not know why
Stars shine bright
In cold winter skies
Or why I gaze aloft and sigh
Mesmerized by icy fires so far away
That stoke my imagination and fuel my hope-
Stalwart foolish heart, wishing on a winter night
For magic, or something more
Than what is here
Or what my time will bring
How many eyes have been dazzled
And dared to dream
How many others
Were blinded in the night
And lost their way
Never to again regain
Their purpose
In the light of day.

I am a 53 year old lawyer (federal employee) native to Wisconsin, relocated to San Antonio TX in 1995. I have been writing poetry for 30 plus years and have just begun to seek publication.
